Applicability of 14 CFR Part 107

14 CFR Part 107 applies to the operation of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) weighing less than 55 pounds on takeoff, including everything that is on board or otherwise attached. Operations for which Part 107 does not apply include air carrier operations, public aircraft operations, amateur rockets, moored balloons or unmanned free balloons, and recreational flyers operating under 49 U.S.C. 44809.

The Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) holds the certificate and bears the final authority and responsibility for every flight. A non-certificated person may manipulate the controls only under the direct supervision of an RPIC.
