Waivers — 14 CFR 107.200 and the online DroneZone portal
The FAA may issue a certificate of waiver authorizing a deviation from specific Part 107 Subpart B operating rules upon a showing that the proposed operation can be conducted safely. Common waivers:
• Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) — waives 107.31 • Operations over human beings — waives 107.39 (when Category 1-4 don't apply) • Multiple sUAS operation by one RPIC — waives 107.35 • Operation from a moving vehicle in a populated area — waives 107.25 • Operations in controlled airspace beyond LAANC — waives 107.41
Waiver requests are submitted via the FAA DroneZone portal. The FAA does NOT grant waivers to 107.37 (right-of-way) or 107.23 (hazardous operation). Waiver processing typically takes 90 days; safety-case documentation is the most common cause of delay or denial.
