Remote Pilot Certificate — eligibility and recurrent training
To apply for a Remote Pilot Certificate, an applicant must (1) be at least 16 years old, (2) be able to read, speak, write, and understand English, (3) be in a physical and mental condition to safely operate a sUAS, and (4) pass the Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) initial aeronautical knowledge test at a PSI Services (formerly Lasergrade) testing center.
The UAG is 60 questions drawn from the Part 107 ACS, passing score 70%. Part 61 certificate holders who have completed a flight review within the preceding 24 months may instead take the UAGR (Recurrent) online course via FAASafety.gov.
**Recurrent training** is required every 24 calendar months and consists of a free online course (ALC-677 + ALC-515 + ALC-451 covering night operations, Category Operations Over People, and Remote ID). Failure to complete recurrent training does not void the certificate but prohibits Part 107 operations until training is completed.
