Area I — Preflight Preparation Task A — Pilot Qualifications

A private pilot may act as pilot in command of an aircraft for compensation or hire only under the limitations specified in the regulations. Cost sharing with passengers is permitted within defined ratios; carriage of passengers for hire is not.
