As of 2021-04-21, night operations are permitted under Part 107 without a waiver, subject to two requirements:

(1) **Anti-collision lighting** visible for at least 3 statute miles. The lighting must have a flash rate sufficient to avoid a collision.

(2) The remote pilot must have completed the updated recurrent training (ALC-515 or the FAA recurrent online course after 2021-04-06) that covers night operations.

Civil twilight is defined in the Air Almanac; sunrise-sunset alone is insufficient. In the continental United States, civil twilight ends approximately 30 minutes after sunset and begins approximately 30 minutes before sunrise. During civil twilight (and during daylight), anti-collision lighting is not required under 14 CFR 107.29 but remains a best practice.
