Read

The VFR Sectional Chart is a 1:500,000 aeronautical chart. Key elements a remote pilot must interpret:

**Airspace boundaries** — Class B shown in solid blue, Class C in solid magenta, Class D in dashed blue, Class E surface area in dashed magenta. The floor and ceiling of each class appear as fractions (e.g., 100/SFC = ceiling 10,000 ft MSL, floor surface).

**Airport symbols** — tower-controlled airports in blue, non-towered in magenta. Circles with ticks indicate services (fuel) available.

**Obstacles** — depicted with obstacle symbol (tower icon) plus MSL altitude in bold and AGL altitude in parentheses. Lighted obstacles have a small rays symbol. Wind turbines appear as a specific wind-turbine icon.

**Latitude/longitude** — tick marks at each full minute; every 30' carries a label. A typical sUAS operation works at chart scale 1 NM ≈ 2 mm on the chart.

**Magnetic variation** — isogonic lines (east or west variation) in blue dashed. Used to convert true course to magnetic course.
